Why NRLW Talent Development Is Accelerating

At Excel Sports, our long-term approach to NRLW talent development has already proven its success through years of early scouting and structured mentoring.

Why the Rise Was Never a Surprise to Us

For many people in rugby league, the explosion of young female talent entering the NRLW has felt sudden — almost too fast.

But from where I stand, this rise was never a surprise.

I’ve been watching it build for years. Why NRLW Talent Development Is Accelerating

While others were doubting expansion, questioning the talent pool, and worrying whether girls could keep up with the physical demands, Excel Sports was already preparing the next generation — long before the spotlight shifted their way.

We weren’t guessing.

We were investing.

We were scouting.

We were mentoring.

We were building.

And today, the results speak for themselves.

Excel Sports Was Preparing for This Boom Years Before Anyone Else

When I founded Excel Sports, I made a decision that shaped everything that followed:

Invest early. Invest correctly. Invest with purpose.

That meant scouting young athletes legally in the year they turned 15, developing them through a 2–3 year mentoring program, and preparing them for:

  • NRLW Development pathways

  • Top 24 opportunities

  • Full professional integration

We carried the entire burden ourselves — financially, emotionally, and physically.

No funding from clubs.

No funding from the NRL.

Just faith in these young women and a belief that the game was about to change.

People doubted us.

People questioned us.

Some made up stories and gossip.

But I never lowered my standards.

I never gave oxygen to negativity.

Excel Sports had values, integrity, and a clear vision — and that kept us focused on the work.

Now, the landscape has caught up to what we saw coming years ago.

The Young Female Talent Pool Is Exploding — And We Are Leading the Wave

The rise in NRLW talent is not accidental. It’s the result of:

  • greater investment in young female athletes

  • better coaching

  • advanced conditioning

  • improved pathways

  • and agencies like Excel Sports mentoring at the grassroots level

Our athletes today are:

  • faster

  • stronger

  • more skillful

  • mentally sharper

  • and prepared well before they enter a high-performance system

And nothing proves this more than the class of talent we have rising right now.

Every young woman who enters our program learns the values that build elite athletes:

  • FAMILY — your first support system

These values are not slogans; they are the reason our athletes grow into leaders, role models, and professionals.

Talent matters.Values matter more.Together, they create players who excel — on and off the field.
